On any network
Chapters
Your agents build on your Mac at home. At home your phone shares a network with it. Out the door it is on mobile data, and in a hotel it sits behind a Wi-Fi that lets no direct connection through. Each place needs a different way to reach your Mac.
Pair your phone once, and Offsite finds the way from wherever you are. It tries your local network, your Tailscale and the relay at the same time, and the first that answers carries the session. The relay is encrypted end to end, so it cannot read a word. When you walk back in, the session moves to your local network while it runs.
Tips
- The pill on the host’s card in the app menu names the path in use and its measured latency, such as
LAN · 4 msorRelay · 96 ms. When something feels slow, it tells you whether the network is the reason. - The relay is optional and switches per host. With it off, that host is reachable on your own network and over your tailnet.
- Your host needs no open port: the phone and the host both dial out to the relay on port 443.
